Trading Nasdaq 100 E-mini with AxiTrader

What is the NASDAQ 100?

The NASDAQ 100 CFD Index offers traders access to an index comprised of 100 of the largest domestic and international non-financial securities listed on NASDAQ Stock Market, based on market capitalisation.

The index is comprised of companies across major industry groups including computer hardware and software, telecommunications, retail/wholesale trade and biotechnology. It features some of the best known names in the global tech business; Apple, Amazon, Baidu, Cisco, Ebay, Facebook, Alphabet, Intel, Netflix, Starbucks, Trip Advisor, Vodafone, Yahoo! and many more.

What does it mean for traders?

What makes the NASDAQ 100 different from many indexes around the world is that it does not contain securities of financial companies, including investment companies. From an Australian investor’s perspective, the exclusion of financial companies offers a source of diversification away from the local index which is weighted towards the four major local banks and other financial companies.

The addition of the NASDAQ 100 index to the AxiTrader portfolio will allow traders to access an index that represents sectors of the economy often not widely available in local Australian exchanges. As such, the immediate impact will be to provide traders with exposure to new trade opportunities and offer additional opportunities for diversification and risk management.

As the NASDAQ 100 is based largely on technology and new economy companies, it has different drivers and components when compared with other large global exchanges such as the S&P 500, Nikkei, China A50 or the ASX-linked SPI 200. From the perspective of a trader or investor, it therefore offers different volatility, different exposure and a depth of liquidity not typically found in, for example, the ASX.

In the context of AxiTrader’s long-term global outlook, the NASDAQ 100 is a significant addition that follows the recent addition of the Nikkei 225, China A50 and EURO STOXX 50 indexes to the company’s core stable of instruments. The addition of more indexes is a continuation of AxiTrader’s plan to incorporate more global exchanges into current offerings, and in doing so offer traders more choice of tradable instruments and greater exposure to different markets and drivers.
